Obamacare Reality Check

Obamacare Reality Check

From the beginning, proponents of The Affordable Care Act conflated the
argument that the rising costs of healthcare were due to people without health
insurance. They ignored the fact that most Americans have health insurance, and
they failed to admit that the rising costs of health care have been ignited by
players such as the medical insurance industry and big Pharma which were
integral in crafting Obamacare.

Starting October 1st, people will learn what doctors and patients have known
all along – having health insurance does not equal receiving quality affordable
healthcare. The bronze plan can cost a person at least $2000 in out of pocket
expenses which is in addition to their premium. This cost can rise significantly
because the mandate that was to put a cap on out of pocket expenses was delayed.
People will find themselves in the unenviable position of not being able to
afford medication, tests or procedures because they can’t afford to pay their
portion. Even though no one can be turned away for preexisting conditions, they
can still be effectively priced out of care because the premiums and the out of
pocket expenses are too high.

  • Obamacare will invariably lead to a centralized, rigid healthcare system that
will insert the government as the decision maker breaking the doctor patient
    relationship.
  • Cost control will be the driving force to keep the system operating;
therefore, rationing of care will be inevitable.
  • A myriad of new taxes will be levied and economic and personal privacy will
be sacrificed to make sure everyone (except Congress and other privileged
groups) is paying their fair share because this expensive system with its
subsidies and entitlements will have to be funded.

When the system is overwhelmed and breaks, as it was intended, the end result
will be a complete takeover of the healthcare system by the government as single
payer, socialized medicine.

There will also be another enormous change in our country – the transfer of wealth, not from the rich to the poor, but from the middle class making them another segment of society that will become dependent on the government.

How much is the GOP paying for your lies Dr.?

Dear Ms. Dwyer, I am a free thinker. For the the past 15 years I have been on the front line of patient care, and my patients and I have lived through and learned how to navigate the roadblocks placed by both the government and insurance companies. Obamacare takes the worst of the healthcare delivery system and amplifies it, and makes it manditory for Americans to pay for it. I don’t depend on the Republicans or the Democrats to think for me….I believe in doing my own research. I suggest you do the same.

That’s one possible scenario. What’s missing in the argument is an acknowledgement that insurance companies already play that role of healthcare decision maker. ‘For profit’ desk jockeys, dependent on their Friday pay checks are currently deciding who gets what care. ‘For profit’ CEO’s are setting those guidelines. And, the 30 million +/- currently without insurance, go without care until their condition is so bad they end up in public hospitals getting card they’ll never be able to pay for, that would likely have been unnecessary had their condition been diagnosed and treated much earlier. Less than 10% incur more than 80% of all healthcare dollars, in large part for this reason. So, if not covering everyone under some insurance plan (& I am also uncomfortable with ‘for profit’ corporations having such power), and not the government, which in theory is an extension of the collective will of the majority in our country, then who? then what system? Merely turning your neighbors out to fend for themselves may sound exciting, individualistic, the ‘American way’, but I don’t think so.

Great article. I completely agree. I wish others would wake up and realize that their being used like pawns on a chess board.

Thank you doctor. Even when the plain, simple truth is spoken people would rather attack the messenger and believe a lie.
